The Engineer’s Confession
As the rain poured down outside, Sebastian sat nervously in the dimly lit office of Eric Watson, the engineer responsible for designing the traffic light system at the haunted intersection. The room was cluttered with blueprints and diagrams, giving it an air of mystery. Sebastian hoped that Eric held the key to unraveling the secrets behind the accidents that claimed the lives of the innocent.
Eric, an aged man with tired eyes, sat across from Sebastian, his gaze fixed on the raindrops cascading down the windowpane. The room was filled with an uncomfortable silence until Sebastian found the courage to speak.
"Mr. Watson, thank you for agreeing to meet with me. I've been searching for answers about the accidents at the crossroads, and I believe you hold crucial information."
Eric took a deep breath and finally shifted his gaze to meet Sebastian's earnest eyes. "You should know, young man, that I've lived a lifetime with the guilt of what happened at that intersection. The accidents were no accident at all."
Sebastian leaned forward, his heart pounding in anticipation. "What do you mean?"
Eric leaned back in his chair, his voice filled with remorse. "I manipulated the traffic light system, intentionally causing chaos and confusion. I wanted to expose the flaws in my own design and force the authorities to address the issue before more lives were lost."
Sebastian's heart sank as the weight of Eric's confession settled upon him. The engineer's desperation to right his wrongs had inadvertently caused the accidents that haunted the intersection.
"Why didn't you come forward?" Sebastian asked, his voice filled with a mixture of disbelief and anger.
Eric's eyes welled up with tears. "I was a young and foolish man, driven by my own pride. I wanted to fix the problems quietly, without implicating myself. But the accidents...they were never meant to happen. I never intended for anyone to get hurt."
Sebastian struggled to comprehend the engineer's words. The haunting was not the result of a malevolent force, but of a single person's misguided attempt to bring about change.
"But what about the missing parents?" Sebastian asked, his voice trembling. "Why were they never seen at the intersection that day?"
Eric's expression turned sullen as he wiped away a tear. "That was my greatest mistake. In my haste to manipulate the traffic lights, I failed to consider the consequences. The parents were never at the intersection because I altered the signals to lead them away, hoping to avoid any innocent casualties. I thought I was sparing them, but I only caused them everlasting grief."
Sebastian was overwhelmed by a wave of sadness. The innocent families torn apart, the children left without their parents — all because of one man's misguided attempt at redemption.
As the rain continued to batter against the window, Eric reached into a drawer and pulled out an old newspaper article. He handed it to Sebastian, his hands trembling with regret.
"This article holds the key to everything. It will reveal the true extent of my wrongdoing and the tragic chain of events that followed. Please, find a way to bring closure to those affected."
Sebastian took the article, his fingers brushing against the brittle pages. He knew this was the breakthrough he had been searching for, but the weight of responsibility now felt heavier than ever before.
"I promise you, Mr. Watson, I will find a way to set things right. The spirits trapped at that intersection deserve redemption, and so do you."
With a solemn nod, Eric Watson closed his eyes, allowing the weight of guilt to consume him once again.
As Sebastian left the engineer's office, clutching the damning evidence in his hands, he couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. He was closer than ever to uncovering the truth, but the journey ahead seemed more treacherous than he could have ever anticipated. Would the knowledge he sought truly bring redemption, or would it only deepen the wounds of the past?
One thing was certain—Sebastian refused to turn back now. The intersection's dark secrets had been laid bare, and he would carry the burden of the lost souls on his shoulders until he could grant them the peace they so desperately craved.
