Chapter 112

The Long Night

Lemon sat quietly on the edge of the school’s rooftop, the gentle breeze tugging at her hair as she gazed out over the sprawling cityscape. The late afternoon sun cast a warm, golden hue across the horizon, illuminating her thoughts with a soft glow. Her heart fluttered with a mixture of anticipation and nervousness, knowing that today was the day she had been waiting for—an opportunity to finally speak her feelings to Lucien.

Clad in her favorite strawberry-patterned dress, Lemon clutched a small, carefully wrapped box in her hands. Inside was a simple yet meaningful gift—a delicate bracelet with tiny strawberry charms, a token she had crafted herself during her lunch break, pouring her sincerity into every bead and clasp. It was her way of saying that her feelings, pure and sweet, were meant for him.

From her vantage point, she watched as Lucien approached from the school gates, his usual composed demeanor hiding the flicker of curiosity in his eyes. He carried a stack of books, his glasses sliding down his nose as he looked up and caught sight of her. For a moment, he hesitated, then made his way over, a slight flush creeping across his cheeks.

“You wanted to see me,” Lucien said softly, his voice almost hesitant, as if unsure whether he was welcome or not.

Lemon’s cheeks warmed, but she took a deep breath, summoning her courage. “Yes. I’ve been wanting to tell you something important,” she replied, her voice steady despite her pounding heart. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the small box, offering it to him. “This is for you. I made it myself.”

Lucien’s eyes widened slightly, and he reached out to accept the gift. As he carefully opened the box, his gaze softened at the sight of the tiny strawberry charms shimmering in the fading sunlight. “It’s beautiful,” he murmured, a genuine smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

“I just wanted you to know how I feel,” Lemon admitted, her voice trembling slightly. “I’ve liked you for a long time, and I… I hope you understand.”

For a moment, Lucien was silent, studying her face as if trying to decipher her motives. Then, slowly, he reached out and gently took her hand, his touch surprisingly warm. “Lemon,” he began, voice thick with emotion, “I’ve always admired your kindness and your bright spirit. You make everything around you seem more vibrant. I’ve been afraid to admit it, but… I think I feel the same way.”

Lemon’s heart leapt in her chest. She could hardly believe her ears. For all his stoic exterior, Lucien’s words carried a tenderness that melted away her doubts. She squeezed his hand, her eyes shining with joy.

“I was nervous about today,” she whispered, her voice trembling with happiness. “But I’m glad I told you. I’ve wanted to for so long.”

Lucien smiled softly, his eyes glinting with newfound warmth. “Me too. I’ve always been so focused on studies and everything else, but… you’ve shown me what truly matters. Your honesty and your warmth have opened my eyes.”

They stood in silence for a moment, the world around them fading into insignificance. The only sound was the distant chirping of birds and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze. Lemon felt a surge of courage swell within her, and she leaned closer, her cheeks flushed. “Would you… want to go out with me? To see where this could lead?”

Lucien’s smile grew wider, and he nodded. “Yes. I would like that very much.”

Just then, a familiar voice interrupted their tender moment. Ethan appeared at the rooftop entrance, grinning mischievously but with a tender spark in his eyes. “Well, well, looks like I walked in on something pretty sweet,” he teased, crossing his arms.

Lemon blushed furiously, her hands instinctively pulling back. “Ethan! You’re just in time to witness the beginning of something wonderful,” she said, trying to sound confident but failing to hide her embarrassment.

Ethan chuckled, giving Lucien a friendly nudge. “Got to admit, I’ve been waiting for this. You’re finally stepping out of that icy shell, man. Lemon’s special, and I knew you’d see it eventually.”

Lucien looked slightly sheepish but grateful for Ethan’s support. “Thanks, Ethan. I’ve realized that life isn’t just about grades and facts. Sometimes, it’s about taking a chance—like Lemon did today.”

Mia, who had quietly joined them, clasped her hands together, eyes shining with happiness. “I knew you guys had something special. Lemon, I’m so proud of you for being brave enough to tell him.”

Lemon glanced at her friends, feeling a warmth that went beyond the afternoon sun. Her heart swelled with gratitude for their encouragement and friendship. She had always believed in the power of kindness and sincerity, and today, she had taken a leap of faith.

As the sun dipped lower, casting long shadows across the rooftop, Lemon felt a sense of hope blossom within her. The journey ahead might still have uncertainties, but with Lucien by her side and her friends cheering her on, she knew she was ready to face whatever came next—her heart open, her spirits high, and her love as sweet as the strawberries she adored.
