Chapter 115

The First Victory

Lemon sat on the edge of the school courtyard bench, her fingers nervously twisting a strand of her hair as she watched the afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow over the blooming cherry blossoms. The gentle rustle of leaves and distant chatter of students created a calming backdrop, but her heart fluttered with a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. Today had been a whirlwind—a day filled with moments that felt both like a dream and an impossible truth waiting to be acknowledged.

Mia, her ever-energetic best friend, plopped down next to her with a bright grin. “You’ve been quiet all afternoon! Spill it—what’s on your mind?”

Lemon hesitated, then offered a small, shy smile. “It’s nothing… just thinking about everything that’s happened lately. I feel like I’m standing at a crossroads, and I don’t know which way to go.”

Mia nudged her playfully. “Come on, Lemon. You’re not the type to get all contemplative for no reason. Is it about Lucien?”

Lemon’s cheeks warmed. She nodded softly, clutching her hands in her lap. “I… I think I’m falling for him. But I don’t know if he feels the same way. Sometimes, I catch him looking at me differently, but then he shuts down again. I don’t want to ruin what we have, but I also can’t keep pretending I don’t feel this way.”

Mia’s eyes sparkled with encouragement. “That’s brave of you to admit. Honestly, Lemon, I’ve seen how he looks at you—like you’re the only thing that matters. Maybe he’s just afraid to show it. Sometimes, people need a little push.”

Lemon sighed, glancing down at her trembling hands. “I want to tell him how I feel. I want to be honest, but what if he doesn’t feel the same? What if I embarrass myself?”

Before Mia could reply, footsteps approached. Lucien appeared, his usual composed expression slightly softer today. His dark eyes flicked between Lemon and Mia, a faint smile playing on his lips. He hesitated for a moment, then spoke quietly. “I’ve been looking for you, Lemon.”

She straightened, feeling her pulse quicken. “I was just… thinking.”

Lucien took a step closer, his gaze intense yet gentle. “You’ve been on my mind too. I… I’ve noticed how you’re always brightening the days around you. It’s hard to ignore how special you are.”

Lemon’s cheeks flamed. “Lucien, I… I wanted to tell you—”

He raised a hand, softly interrupting. “I know. I’ve known for a while, but I wasn’t sure how to say it. I’ve spent years trying to hide what I feel, afraid it would ruin everything. But I can’t anymore.”

Mia grinned knowingly, nudging Lemon to gather her courage. Lemon took a deep breath, feeling a newfound strength surge within her. “I like you, Lucien. More than just as a friend. I’ve liked you for a while now, and I hoped… maybe you felt the same.”

Lucien’s eyes widened slightly, as if surprised by her honesty, then softened. “I do. More than I realized. When I’m around you, everything else fades away. You bring color to my world that I never knew was missing.”

A smile blossomed on Lemon’s face as relief washed over her. The weight of her fears lifted, replaced by a warmth that spread through her chest. She stepped closer, her voice trembling but sincere. “So… maybe we could see where this goes? Together?”

Lucien nodded, a rare genuine smile breaking through his usual reserved demeanor. “I’d like that. Very much.”

As they stood there, the cherry blossoms swaying gently overhead, Ethan appeared behind them, grinning mischievously. “Well, well, looks like love’s in the air,” he teased, earning a blush from Lemon and a chuckle from Lucien.

Mia clapped her hands, her eyes shining brightly. “I knew it! You two were meant to be. I’m so happy for you!”

Lemon looked at Lucien, her heart fluttering anew. “I never thought I’d find someone who makes me feel this way. Thank you for being brave enough to tell me.”

Lucien reached out, taking her hand gently in his. “I promise to do my best to be the person you deserve. No more hiding. No more fears. Just us.”

The late afternoon sun bathed everything in a soft, golden hue, as if blessing their newfound connection. Lemon looked into Lucien’s eyes, feeling a sense of peace she had never known before. In that moment, she realized that sometimes, the greatest courage was simply being honest—about feelings, about hopes, about love. And she was ready to face whatever came next, hand in hand with the boy who had quietly stolen her heart.
