Chapter 131

The New Home

Lemon’s heart fluttered as she hurried through the school corridor, clutching her notebook close to her chest. The soft hum of students chatting and footsteps echoed around her, but her focus was solely on the small slip of paper she had tucked into her pocket—a note from Lucien. It had arrived early that morning, slipped discreetly into her locker, with only a single word written in elegant handwriting: “Meet.”

She had tried to act nonchalant, but her cheeks burned with excitement and nervous anticipation. She knew Lucien wasn’t the type to make grand gestures easily, so that simple message felt like a treasure—a fragment of his guarded heart slowly revealing itself. Her mind raced with questions. Was this a confession? Or perhaps just a quiet invitation to talk? Whatever it was, Lemon was determined to seize the moment.

She spotted Mia near their usual spot by the courtyard, her energetic smile already lighting up Lemon’s day. Mia’s eyes sparkled with curiosity as she saw Lemon fidgeting with the note.

"Hey! What's got you looking like a squirrel on espresso?" Mia teased, leaning in with a playful grin.

Lemon hesitated a moment before slipping the note into Mia’s hand. "Lucien asked me to meet him here. I think… I think something’s about to happen."

Mia’s eyes widened in surprise, then softened with understanding. She knew Lemon’s feelings for Lucien ran deep, and she was genuinely happy to see her friend so brave. “That’s awesome! Just be yourself, Lemon. Whatever it is, you’re going to be amazing.”

Lemon nodded, trying to steady her nerves. She took a deep breath, feeling the warmth of Mia’s encouragement, and then turned toward the designated spot near the old oak tree. Her heart pounded loudly, each beat echoing in her ears as she approached, searching for Lucien.

He was already waiting there, standing stiffly with his hands in his pockets, his sharp eyes fixed on her. His usual composed demeanor was tinged with a hint of vulnerability, and Lemon felt her courage swell. She took a tentative step forward.

"Hi, Lucien," she greeted softly, trying to keep her voice steady. "You wanted to see me?"

He nodded, a faint blush coloring his cheeks, which was rare for him. "Yeah. I… I’ve been thinking about how to say this. I guess I’ve been slow to realize what I feel, but… it’s important that I tell you now."

Lemon’s stomach clenched with anticipation. She could feel her palms sweating, but she managed a small, encouraging smile.

Lucien took a step closer, his eyes searching hers. "You’re always so bright, Lemon. Your positivity, your kindness—it's infectious. Being around you makes everything feel more alive, even when I try to keep my distance. I’ve never met anyone like you, and honestly, I’ve fought against these feelings for a while now, because I didn’t want to admit how much you matter."

Her breath caught in her throat. She had wondered if he felt the same, but hearing it spoken aloud made her heart flutter uncontrollably.

He looked down briefly, gathering his thoughts. "I like you, Lemon. More than I ever thought I would. And I want to be honest about it."

A warm flush spread across Lemon’s cheeks, and she felt tears prick her eyes, overwhelmed by the sincerity in his voice. She had dreamed of this moment for so long, yet even in her fantasies, it hadn’t felt this real.

"Lucien," she whispered, stepping closer, her voice trembling with emotion. "I like you too. More than I can say. I’ve always admired your strength, your intelligence, and the way you look at the world differently. Being with you… it feels like everything has fallen into place."

Lucien’s eyes softened, and he reached out, gently taking her hand in his. His touch was tentative but warm, grounding her amidst the whirlwind of feelings. For a moment, they simply stood there, hands intertwined beneath the shade of the ancient oak, their silence speaking volumes.

Behind them, the distant chatter of students faded into insignificance. All that mattered was this fragile, beautiful connection unfolding between two hearts willing to open up.

Lucien hesitated for a second before leaning slightly closer. His voice was barely above a whisper. "I’ve been so used to keeping my distance, to hiding my feelings, but with you… I want to be honest. I want us to see where this can go."

Lemon nodded, squeezing his hand gently, her smile glowing brighter than ever. "Me too."

Their eyes met, and in that quiet instant, everything else seemed to fade away. The world around them was filled with possibilities—unspoken promises, shared dreams, and the hope of a future built on honesty and kindness. Lemon felt her heart swell with warmth, and she knew, without a doubt, that this was just the beginning of something truly special.
