Chapter 155

The Memories Shared

Lemon’s heart fluttered as she hurried through the school corridors, clutching her bag tightly against her side. The late afternoon sunlight filtered softly through the windows, casting a warm glow over the hallways. Her cheeks still tingled from the nervous anticipation that had stirred all day, and her mind replayed every moment of her conversation with Lucien earlier in the day. She couldn’t help but smile at the memory of his rare, genuine smile—the kind that seemed to melt away his usual aloof demeanor, revealing a glimpse of vulnerability beneath his composed exterior.

Today had been different. Lucien had approached her during the break, his expression slightly softer than usual, eyes flickering with a hint of curiosity and something more. He had asked her about her favorite books, her dreams, even about her little sister Lily’s latest adventures. Lemon had felt her confidence grow with each word, her voice a little steadier, her laugh a little brighter. For the first time, she sensed that their connection was deepening beyond casual friendship, threading into something more meaningful.

As she turned the corner toward her classroom, Lemon’s thoughts were interrupted by Ethan’s familiar voice calling out from behind. “Hey, Lemon! Wait up!” Ethan jogged to catch up, a mischievous grin playing on his face. “You seem pretty lively today. Got something exciting to tell us?”

Lemon blushed, her cheeks warming again. “Oh, um, nothing special. Just… feeling happy, I guess.”

Ethan tilted his head, eyes twinkling with mischief. “Don’t give me that. I saw you talking to Lucien today. Looks like something’s changed, huh?”

Lemon’s heart thumped loudly. She hesitated for a moment, then nodded, a shy smile breaking through. “Maybe. I think I’m starting to understand him better.”

Ethan chuckled softly, nudging her playfully. “That’s good. You’ve got this way of making people open up. Just don’t forget to be yourself, Lemon. That’s what he’ll need most.”

They reached the classroom door together, and Lemon pushed it open. Inside, Mia was already waiting, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Lemon! There you are! I’ve been waiting for you to tell me everything.”

Lemon took a deep breath, feeling the warmth of her friends’ support. The classroom buzzed with the usual chatter, but Lemon’s thoughts were elsewhere, caught up in the quiet hope fluttering inside her. She knew she needed to be brave, to take the next step, but the fear of rejection still lingered at the back of her mind.

Mrs. Carter, standing at her desk, looked up and offered a gentle smile. “Lemon, everything alright? You seem energized today.”

Lemon nodded, trying to hide her nervousness. “Yes, Mrs. Carter. I just… I think I’m starting to understand myself a little better.”

The bell rang, signaling the end of the day, and students began gathering their belongings. Lemon lingered for a moment, glancing at her friends, then took a deep breath and made her way toward the school courtyard where Lucien often stayed after classes, lost in his studies or quiet contemplation.

She spotted him sitting alone on a bench, his head bent over a thick book, his dark hair slightly tousled. Her heart pounded as she approached, unsure of what she’d say but knowing she had to try. As she drew closer, Lucien looked up, eyes meeting hers, a faint smile touching his lips.

“Lemon,” he greeted softly, closing his book. “Did you want to talk?”

She nodded, her voice trembling slightly. “Yes. Actually… I’ve been thinking a lot about today, about us. I… I want you to know how I feel.”

Lucien’s expression grew more attentive, a flicker of curiosity crossing his face. Lemon took a step closer, gathering her courage.

“I like you, Lucien. More than just a friend. I like the way you think, the way you challenge me, and how you’re not afraid to show a different side of yourself. I want to understand you better, to be by your side. If you feel the same, I’d like to take a chance.”

For a moment, he said nothing, his gaze searching hers. Then, very slowly, he reached out, taking her hand gently. His touch was warm, reassuring. “Lemon… I’ve been feeling the same way, but I didn’t know if I was ready to admit it. You’ve opened my eyes to things I never noticed before—your kindness, your sincerity. I’ve been afraid that I might hurt you or that I wasn’t good enough. But hearing you say this… it’s made me realize that I want to try.”

A soft blush spread across Lemon’s cheeks, and her eyes sparkled with hope. She squeezed his hand gently, feeling the warmth of his words. The world around them seemed to fade away as they stood there, two hearts connecting in quiet understanding.

Lucien hesitated for a moment, then leaned in slightly, his voice barely above a whisper. “Lemon, I want to be with you. I want to see where this can go.”

Lemon felt tears prick at her eyes, overwhelmed by the sincerity of his feelings. “Me too,” she whispered back, her voice trembling with emotion.

As they sat together on the bench, holding hands and sharing a moment of pure, unspoken connection, Lemon knew that her journey toward love was just beginning. She had taken a leap—one filled with uncertainty, but also with hope—and now, standing beside Lucien, she felt more confident that their story was only starting to unfold. The setting sun cast a gentle glow over them, sealing their promises with a quiet promise of new beginnings and endless possibilities.
