Chapter 180

The Journey Continues

Lemon sat quietly in the corner of the bustling school courtyard, her legs crossed beneath her, clutching a small, strawberry-shaped plush toy. The warm afternoon sun cast a gentle glow over everything, but her mind lingered on the strange mixture of nervousness and hope fluttering inside her chest. Today was the day she had been waiting for—an opportunity to finally share her feelings with Lucien.

Mia plopped down beside her, her eyes bright with excitement. "Are you ready? You've been practicing what to say all week!" she teased, nudging Lemon playfully.

Lemon took a deep breath, trying to steady her pounding heart. "I think so. I just... I want to tell him how I feel. I want him to know that he's special."

Mia nodded encouragingly. "You're brave. Lucien is lucky to have someone like you."

Meanwhile, Lucien approached from the far end of the courtyard, his usual composed expression slightly softened. He carried a stack of books, but his gaze kept drifting toward Lemon and Mia. His heart thudded unexpectedly, a sensation unfamiliar and somewhat confusing.

Ethan, who had been leaning against a nearby tree, caught sight of Lucien and called out, "Hey, Lucien! Over here!" He waved enthusiastically, a mischievous grin on his face.

Lucien hesitated for a moment before walking over, his eyes flickering with curiosity. Ethan clapped him on the back and nodded toward Lemon. "You know, Lemon's been waiting to talk to you. She's been pretty nervous."

Lucien's brow furrowed slightly. "Really? Why?"

Ethan smirked. "Come on, man. Don't be dense. Lemon's been acting differently lately—more lively, more... interested."

Lucien looked away, adjusting his glasses. He wasn't used to such straightforward conversations about feelings. Deep down, he felt a strange fluttering, as if a part of him was awakening from a long slumber.

From her vantage point, Lemon watched as Lucien approached, her cheeks flushing. She fidgeted with her plush toy, trying to summon the courage she had practiced in her mind so many times.

Mrs. Carter, passing by, gave her a warm smile and a gentle nod. "Remember, Lemon, sincerity is the key. Be yourself."

Lemon nodded nervously, clutching her toy tighter.

Lucien stopped a few steps away, his voice measured and calm. "Hello, Lemon."

"Hi, Lucien," she managed, voice trembling slightly. "Um, I... I wanted to talk to you about something."

He tilted his head slightly, eyes attentive. "Go ahead."

Lemon took a deep breath. "I know we don't talk much about feelings, and maybe it's a little sudden, but I just... I really like being around you. Your intelligence is impressive, but what I like most is that you seem to understand things in a way others don't. I... I think you're amazing."

For a moment, Lucien's eyes widened in surprise, and his face remained unreadable. Then, slowly, a faint blush crept into his cheeks. He looked down, adjusting his glasses, trying to process what he'd just heard.

Ethan chuckled softly, stepping aside to give them space. Mia reached over and gave Lemon an encouraging squeeze on the shoulder.

Lucien finally looked up, his voice softer than usual. "Lemon, I... I didn't expect you to say that."

Lemon's heart pounded so loudly she was afraid it might burst from her chest. "I'm sorry if it's too sudden. I just... I wanted to tell you because I care."

A silence stretched between them, filled only by the distant chirping of birds and the gentle rustling of leaves.

Lucien hesitated, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, carefully wrapped box. He handed it to Lemon, who stared at it in surprise.

"Here," he said quietly. "This is for you."

She opened the box slowly, revealing a delicate bracelet adorned with tiny strawberry charms. Her eyes shimmered with tears of happiness. "It's beautiful."

Lucien looked away briefly, an expression of discomfort flickering across his face. "I wanted to give you something to show that I... I appreciate you."

Mia and Ethan watched from afar, exchanging amused glances and quietly cheering inside.

Mrs. Carter, observing the scene, felt a warmth in her heart. She knew that Lemon's sincerity had touched Lucien in a way words never could.

Lemon looked up at him, her voice trembling with emotion. "Thank you. This means so much to me."

Lucien nodded, a faint smile appearing on his usually stoic face. "I'm glad you told me."

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the courtyard, Lemon and Lucien stood there in a quiet understanding. The barriers of distance and indifference seemed to melt away, replaced by something genuine and fragile, ready to grow.

Mia and Ethan hurried over, their faces lighting up with joy. "You did it, Lemon! He really likes you," Mia whispered excitedly.

Lemon grinned, her cheeks still tinged with pink. "I was so nervous, but... I think it was worth it."

In that peaceful moment, with laughter and gentle smiles, Lemon realized that sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is simply be honest. And in doing so, she had taken a step closer to the happiness she had always dreamed of.
