The School Festival Plans
Lemon sat quietly on the edge of the school courtyard, clutching her backpack tightly as the late afternoon sun cast warm golden hues across the stone pavement. Her heart fluttered with a mixture of anticipation and nerves. Today had been a whirlwind—a day filled with unspoken words, shy glances, and moments she hoped would turn into something more. She looked up as Mia approached, her eyes bright with curiosity.
"Hey, Lemon! You okay?" Mia asked, plopping down beside her with an eager smile. "You’ve been pretty quiet all day."
Lemon hesitated, then let out a soft breath. "I guess I’m just a little nervous. About everything."
Mia nudged her gently. "You mean... Lucien? You’re worried he might not feel the same?"
Lemon nodded, cheeks flushing pink. "I don’t know if I should say anything. What if he doesn’t feel the same way? What if I ruin everything?"
Mia reached over and took Lemon’s hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You’re brave for even thinking about it. Just be yourself. Lucien’s been acting different lately, right? Maybe he feels the same but just doesn’t know how to say it."
Before Lemon could respond, a familiar figure approached from the school entrance. Lucien. His usual composed demeanor was tinged with a hint of softness, his eyes flickering with a strange mixture of anticipation and uncertainty. He hesitated for a moment before walking over, every step deliberate.
"Hi," Lucien greeted, his voice unusually gentle. "Can I talk to you for a moment?"
Lemon’s heart pounded so loudly she was afraid it might burst from her chest. She nodded, trying to steady her trembling hands. Mia smiled encouragingly and quietly slipped away, leaving them alone.
Lucien looked at her, the faintest smile playing on his lips. "I’ve been thinking about... everything we've shared lately," he began, his voice steady but warm. "And I realized I’ve been holding back more than I should."
Lemon’s eyes widened. It was the moment she’d been dreaming of, yet suddenly everything felt so fragile. She swallowed hard, trying to find the right words.
"I… I like you, Lemon," Lucien admitted, his gaze unwavering. "More than I expected. Your energy, your kindness, it’s contagious. I’ve never felt this way before."
A blush spread across Lemon’s cheeks, and her eyes shimmered with unshed tears of happiness. She stepped closer, her voice trembling with emotion. "I like you too, Lucien. I’ve wanted to tell you for a while now, but I was afraid."
He reached out, his hand gently covering hers. "There’s no need to be afraid. I’ve realized that life’s too short to hide what we feel. I want to get to know you better—more than just as classmates or friends."
Lemon nodded vigorously, a grin spreading across her face. "Me too. I want to be brave and see where this leads."
They stood there for a moment, the world around them fading into insignificance. The soft rustling of leaves and the distant hum of students passing by were the only sounds. Lucien’s hand lingered on hers, his gaze tender and sincere.
Just then, a voice interrupted from behind. "Well, isn’t this adorable?" Ethan’s teasing tone broke the moment, and both Lemon and Lucien turned to see him leaning casually against a nearby wall, a mischievous grin on his face.
Ethan clapped his hands once, clearly amused. "I knew you two had something brewing. About time you both admitted it."
Lemon giggled shyly, glancing at Lucien, who simply looked slightly embarrassed but also relieved. Ethan’s support, as always, made her feel more confident.
"Thanks, Ethan," Lemon said softly, feeling grateful for her friend’s unshakeable loyalty.
Ethan winked. "No problem. Just don’t make me wait too long for the wedding invite, okay?"
Lucien rolled his eyes but chuckled softly. "You’re impossible."
As the three of them shared a lighthearted moment, Lemon felt a warmth spreading inside her, a newfound sense of hope. She knew this was only the beginning of something beautiful. With Lucien’s hand still gently holding hers and Ethan’s unwavering friendship, she was ready to face whatever came next—her heart finally open to love and the promise of whatever future awaited.
